Reading to Heathrow taxi excellent services and Scotland travel attractions? In Wales, south Snowdonia is quieter than the north. The Llyn peninsula is almost undiscovered — just beaches, coast and beauty. If time allows on the return east from Tenby you should go through hills that look like an illustration in a child’s picturebook in Carmarthenshire and the Brecon Beacons. My pick of the small towns en route are Laugharne, Llandovery, Brecon, Hay-on-Wye and Crickhowell. Peak season is July and August. Come in May or June to see the countryside flushed with spring or in September to late October for golden late summer spilling into early autumn. A warning about the Highlands — late May to September is peak midge season.
Britain is bursting at the seams with beautiful buildings steeped in history, places of extraordinary natural beauty and striking ultra-modern structures. From ancient monuments to groundbreaking feats of modern engineering and Mother Nature’s best bits, here we take a look at the most spectacular landmarks in Britain. Rising from Wilshire’s Salisbury Plain, this mighty circle of stones is one of England’s most recognised sights. The most famous prehistoric monument in Europe, it was erected in the late Neolithic period, around 2500 BC, and is now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with nearby Avebury. The mystery of how and why the enormous sarsen stones and smaller bluestones were transported and erected here has fascinated people for centuries.
Navigating Heathrow Airport – AssistAntBefore you leave, your depart for your journey to Heathrow, make sure you have a last-minute check of your terminal. Yes, Heathrow has four terminals. It’s quite confusing since they’re numbered 2 to 5. Terminal 1 has not been in operation since 2015. By checking your terminal beforehand, you’ll know exactly where you need to arrive when you travel to Heathrow. However, don’t worry if you find yourself in the wrong terminal upon arrival. Dating back to the thirteenth century, London’s oldest food market is a cornucopia of gourmet goodies. It used to highlight British produce but nowadays you’ll find global traders and street-food vendors: enjoy French confit-duck sandwiches, Ethiopian stews and scotch eggs (elevated, of course). Once notable for its crowds, the market now has a Covid-safe capacity. Arrive early (get coffee from Monmouth), pick up from Neal’s Yard Dairy, Brindisa and Bread Ahead, and head for a riverside picnic.
The magnificent York Minster is second in importance in the Church of England only to the cathedral at Canterbury. It stands in the center of historic York, surrounded by half-timbered homes and shops, medieval guildhalls, and churches. In turn, York’s romantic streets are surrounded by three miles of magnificent town walls that you can walk atop for spectacular views over the city and its surroundings. While here, visit the National Railway Museum, one of England’s most visited tourist attractions. York is also a good base from which to explore northeast England, in particular the rugged beauty of the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Elsewhere in this corner of the country, you’ll find some of England’s most beautiful historic towns and cities, including Durham – famous for its castle and cathedral – and Beverley, which also boasts an attractive minster. Regent’s Park is open from 5 a.m. until around dusk each day. There are plenty of tube stations within walking distance from the park, including Regent’s Park (Bakerloo line), Great Portland Street (Hammersmith & City, Circle & Metropolitan lines) and St John’s Wood (Jubilee line). If you’ve managed to visit the biggest and most well known Royal Parks, there’s also Bushy Park, Greenwich Park, St James’s Park and Green Park, completing the eight. Much smaller than the Royal Parks, there are also numerous smaller spaces that were originally reserved for residents of nearby buildings though are now open to the public. Check for any entry restrictions on the gates as you enter to ensure they are open to the public or are still for private residents.
