What gas equipment is covered? The safety check and maintenance requirements generally apply to any gas appliance or flue installed. How do I know whether the gas engineer is Gas Safe registered? The engineer should be able to provide you with a current ID card. The card contains a photo of the engineer, their business registration number and personal licence number, company name, the start and expiry date of the card and a security hologram. The reverse of the card details what kind of gas work the engineer is able to do.
Only use an engineer who appears on the Gas Safe Register and who can show an identity card to prove it-to install, repair, and service gas appliances The Gas Safe Register is the official list of businesses and engineers who are competent and qualified to do gas work. To be listed on the register, engineers need to hold relevant qualifications and demonstrate competence. Registration must be renewed every year and qualifications updated every five years. The Gas Safe Register also conducts inspections of the work of registered engineers.
The annual check need to be undertaken by a person who has sufficient practical experience of oxy-fuel gas equipment and theoretical knowledge of the functioning of the equipment, the properties of gases used, the potential defects and hazards that may occur and their importance to integrity and safety of the equipment.
