High quality glass door pivot online shopping right now? Grilles for divided lites are inserted between glass panes, making window care a breeze. You can still buy this type of door for a premium, but most manufacturers sell more doors with faux divided lites. These have snap-in wood grilles or grills placed between the panels of dual glazing (see photo at left). They imitate the look but are less expensive to make and are easier to clean than true divided lites. Some grille configurations create an evenly-spaced gridwork of lites in pairs: 6, 8, 10 or 12 lites. Others stack horizontally-shaped panes, yielding 4, 5, or 6 horizontal lites. Hush wheels look exactly the same as regular steel wheels, except that we add a soft polymer ring insert. If your hardware is going into a quieter space, like a bedroom or office, consider using hush wheels. Wheels can be difficult to switch out if you change your mind after the hardware is already installed.
What about my pocket door? If you have an interior pocket door, not all of these safety tips will apply. Since your pocket door’s on the inside, it doesn’t pose the same security risk. But if your pocket door is glass for natural light purposes, we still suggest some window film for reinforcement. Accidents happen. A word of caution, though: if an intrusion attempt damaged your door, that tells you that your sliding door looks vulnerable to burglars.
